"Dying To Self"
This is the 2nd part of the Sermon Series: Take Off Your Mask; It's Time To Be Real!!!
Our text will be coming from:
Luke 9:23 - And he said to [them] all, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
When we die to self we take up our crosses and follow Jesus.No longer is it about us or the things we are going thru and facing but it is living the life we are suppose to live. We put on the coat of Humility and be a servant for the Lord. Being in this mindset of Christ we are to keep self out of the way at all times. In the first part of this series we talked about taking off our masks and being fake. Now the next step is to be real about being Humble. We all have a problem at one time or another about being humble and showing this compassionate side of us. Some I have known have gotten scared to be this way, because they think it is weak and its not needed. In no way, form or fashion is this being weak! But it is being just like Jesus!!! I have been told before that I was too compassionate so I responded was Christ too compassionate? Wow that was such a blessing to me when this person accused me of this..Meaning I was truly showing my light to them and it kinda freaked them out a little bit.
So how do we exactly "die to self?" In 1 Peter 2:1-25 it says:(ESV...English Standard Version)
"So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ..."
You can go on and read the rest in a more depth study. But in a nut shell this is what it is talking about. We have to stop doing the things of this world and trying to straddle a fence that is not even there. You are a Spiritual House! Did you know that? Your body as it says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
New International Version (NIV)
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
And in Romans 12:1
Romans 12:1...(NIV)
A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Our bodies are a living sacrifice to the Lord!!! We need to stop letting the things of this world come in and rob us of what the Lord is wanting to do for us and through us. We need to humble or "die to ourselves" before the Almighty God and get real with Him in ALL aspects of our lives...Not just a few little places thats not how HE works. He wants ALL of us or NOTHING!!!
So when we decide to let the Lord have ALL of us HE can truly use us for that HE wants for us to do.. So how can we apply this to our lives in todays society? There are 4 points I would like to share with you:
1. Decide this is what you truly want to do. You mindset has to be there or this will NOT happen!
2. Praise the Lord for what He is about to do in you and through you--He listens when you praise Him and mean it from your heart.
3. Take yourself into the Court of the Holy of Holies-Mean business when you pray and what you are saying to the Lord! When you mean business the Lord sees your heart and HE knows!!!
4. Let Him lead you the way HE wants for you to go-Dont be taking the reins from Him and thinking this is how its going to be!!! That dont work!!! Like i have said before its ALL or NOTHING !!!
The Lord can teach and mold someone who is teachable and will listen to what HE says and wants. He can not teach anyone who is NOT willing to let HIM have full control over everything.
So in conclusion Dying to Self takes effort on our part. We can't just sit back and dictate things around us--we have to be willing to give our full selves to the Lord and let Him do it HIS way!!!
